This whimsical plate shows numerous monkeys engaged in human like activities, including painting a scroll and opening a melon. The muted tones create a more subtle presentation than is typically seen in Meiji Period Satsuma. It measures 7.25" in diameter and dates about 1890. Condition is excellent.

This is an exquisite example of a Satsuma tray in the form of a fan. Each scene shows detail that is almost comparable to the work of Sozan. The condition is excellent with almost not signs of wear. The dimensions are 8" x 4.5" and it dates about 1900.

The band of figures wraps entirely around the vase and it appears depict a Boys' Day procession. There are beautiful reserves on both the upper and lower portions of the vase with the unusual use of white enamel over the gold on top. It is signed Kaburagi kin sei, a kiln more closely related to Kutani, yet the style is definitely Satsuma and the blank is earthenware. It dates about 1880 - 1890 and it measures 3.5" x 2". This is an interesting example of gosu blue or imperial Satsuma with a gold enameled floral decoration of swirling bands of gosu blue. The top is heavily decorated with geometric, floral and fish scale patterns, bordered by a Greek key pattern. It measures 6" x 5.25" and dates about 1870. The condition is excellent.

There is a lot to look at in this bowl. Aside from the beautiful gold application there is minute enameling hidden throughout the interior scene. The exterior of the bowl contrasts the interior with soft shibui colors and more restrained decoration. It measures 6.2" x 2.25" and dates about 1880 - 1890. There is some age appropriate wear to the rim gilt, but the overall condition is very good.

This is a finely decorated with beautiful execution in both scenes and the reserves. Ranzan was not a prolific artist, but the pieces we have seen are typified by the thick style of gold application on this vase. It measures 5.9" x 2.9" and the condition is excellent. It dates about 1890.

This is a lovely 3 part censer with a reticulated cover and body. The shoulder is decorated with six overlapping scenes surrounded by floral reserves. Also notice the fine detail in the sculpted shishi heads. It measures 4.25" x 5" and dates about 1900. Condition is near mint with few signs of wear.

The gold and enamel work on this large kogo is thickly applied and shows very nice detail. It also incorporates the use of gosu blue, which is quite unusual on this motif. The condition is excellent, exhibiting almost no wear and it dates late Edo - early Meiji Period, or about 1870 - 1880. The dimensions are 5" x 1.9".

This is a finely detailed Kinkozan signed/impressed vase with two panels decorated in excellent quality and detail. There is very nice use of color and good depth in the landscape. While of little consequence, it should be noted that there is some slight wear to the rim, but the overall condition is very good. It measures 7" x 3.9" and dates about 1900.

Typically, the shakuhachi is an end blown flute made from bamboo, but it appears that he is playing a true flute. Either way, this is a delightful piece of a well detailed, sculpted karako boy seated on a leaf. It is signed and impressed by Taizan and dates about 1900 - 1910. It measures 4.75" x 6" x 3.25", in excellent condition.

This form is a true chawan or ceremonial tea bowl. The exterior is decorated with four fan shaped scenes bordered by very elegantly and richly applied gold work. The interior walls show an outdoor scene, wrapping 360 degrees around the inside of the bowl. The center medallion depicts a warrior on horseback. It measures 4.9" x 3.5" and dates about 1890 - 1900. Condition is excellent.

This vase is decorated only with gold and silver application over varying shades of underglaze blue. Although it may appear in the images that the gold is worn on the dragons, the visible red is part of the design. There is some gilt wear to the rim and two pinhead size flakes in the glaze. It measures 8.5" x 3.75" and dates about 1900.
