Large Japanese Satsuma bowl with butterflies by Shinzan
The butterflies on this bowl are finely executed in a rich palette. The side walls taper slightly inward, which when coupled with the scalloped rim, give the appearance of a lotus flower. There is one area showing a small amount of wear to the gold application, but otherwise the condition is excellent. It is fairly large, measuring 4.5" x 10" and dates about 1910 - 1920.
